Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and USA TODAY have Anna’s reaction of being nominated.
From Variety:
Anna Paquin, nominated for supporting actress for her role in HBO’s “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” says being able to attend the Emmys as an adult is something she is looking forward to. “I haven’t done the whole awards show since I was a baby so I am looking forward to staying out late,” she says. “It will be a lot more fun now that I am not 11.”
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Anna Paquin was lying in bed having her coffee, watching a little TV and checking e-mails when the phone rang early in the morning. “I was curious to why someone was calling,” said Paquin, who was nominated for supporting actress in a miniseries or movie for her role in HBO’s “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” but didn’t even know the Emmy noms were being announced. “After I found out I thought, ‘OK, that’s really awesome.’ That’s the best way to find out about something so nice — for it to be unexpected.” Paquin, who recently finished shooting the HBO pilot “True Blood,” said she was proud to be a part of the docudrama that garnered 17 nominations, including nods for fellow castmembers Aidan Quinn and August Schellenberg. “I’m so glad a story is out there that took the viewpoint of one of the many Native Americans who were influenced by such tragedies,” she said. “I’m very excited for Aidan and everyone involved.”
From USA TODAY:
Anna Paquin didn’t even know Emmy announcements were coming up when her publicist called her with the good news, reports Donna Freydkin, who chatted with her a few minutes ago. Paquin got a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie for HBO’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. “I didn’t even know when the Emmys were, let alone that the nominations were coming out,” she says, giggling. “But it’s not a bad way to wake up!”
She won an Oscar for 1993′s The Piano, but an Emmy nomination is every bit as sweet. “I was a baby when it happened. I barely take responsibility for that film,” she says. “It’s an incredible honor to have your work acknowledged. The other women are incredible actresses, so that’s intimidating. I’m glad people appreciated this film. It’s very nice.”
Right now, Paquin is at her place in Manhattan. “I’m lying in bed drinking coffee, as I am always at 9:20 in the morning.” How is she going to celebrate? “I don’t know. I’m still drinking my coffee. I hadn’t thought about it.”
And she’s spending the next few weeks just chilling out before heading to L.A. in September for the Emmys. “As of right now, I’m taking a small vacation. That means anything to hanging in my apartment to visiting friends. Just taking it easy. I’m not good at making plans.”
