Why are vampires so bloody hot right now?
The question was put to Anna Paquin, who plays the fearless vampire lover in the hit series True Blood (returning for a second season tonight at 9 on HBO Canada). “For one thing, all the people that we cast as vampires are incredibly attractive,” she says. “You know, the drop-dead gorgeous thing?”
There’s no doubt she would include Stephen Moyer in that group. The handsome English actor plays courtly vampire Bill Compton, the 173-year-old soulmate to Paquin’s telepathic Louisiana waitress Sookie Stackhouse. Compton is so stuck on Sookie, he risked turning to dust late last season in a daring daylight attempt to protect his lady love.
Moyer himself was practically dusted and fingerprinted on The View last week, when he acknowledged that he and Paquin are very much a couple in real life. Which Paquin is reluctant to do.
“I don’t talk about my personal life,” the 26-year-old woman says, practically gasping at the audacity of the question. “You can ask, but honestly, I always find that when I know a lot about the actors I’m watching on screen, I stop thinking about them as characters and I’m just thinking about some stupid thing I read in a magazine and I don’t believe them – even if they’re really good.”
The Brothers Streep’s Anna Paquin song
Thursday, June 11th, 2009The Brothers Streep, a band from South Africa, wrote a song about Anna and asked for me to post it on the website in hopes that she may hear it one day. You can download the song here or find out more information on the band from their official website.
Anna Paquin: True Blood and Twilight Not the Same
Thursday, June 11th, 2009From E! Online:
Sure, Twilight and True Blood are vampire stories that include romance, violence and the constant struggle between good and evil.
Even so, they’re very different.
“They’re completely different age groups that they’re trying to appeal to,” says Oscar winner Anna Paquin, who stars in HBO’s True Blood as mind-reading Sookie Stackhouse. “It wouldn’t be appropriate for teenagers to be watching our show. I wouldn’t have been allowed to.”
True Blood’s Anna Paquin Leads the Blood Drive
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009From IGN:
True Blood returns this Sunday, June 14th, for its much anticipated second season. New monsters! New mayhem! New nudity! If you’re a fan of vampires, but don’t want to see high school kids staring longingly at each other before taking vows of chastity, then we highly recommend that you tune in for this adult-oriented “bawd”ville horror-fest.
What’s in store for Sookie Stackhouse this season? More vampire-lovin’ that’s for sure. But we thought we’d ask her ourselves. That’s right; IGN had a chance to speak one-on-one with the Bon Temps telepath herself, Anna Paquin.
IGN TV: I actually had a chance to see a few episodes of the new season and I have to say; I liked it even better than Season 1.
Anna Paquin: Why thank you!IGN: Were you aware of the Charlaine Harris book series before you got the role as Sookie?
Paquin: No. I read it when I was auditioning because I wanted to know as much as I could know and have as much of an advantage as possible. Any insights, you know. Because all we got was the pilot script when all of us were auditioning for the roles. But then I read further on. So I’ve read about three of them. But there are so many and she keeps writing more and more. I can’t keep up.
IGN: Yeah, I think her ninth book just came out.
Paquin: I know, right.
IGN: Speaking to that. Since there are nine books now, there’s plenty of source material for your series to go on for years and years. Is this show something you could see yourself doing for a long time?
Paquin: I would do this job as long as people still want to watch it. I mean, I love it.
Associated Press: Anna Paquin Back for More ‘Blood’
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009The Hot Seat: Anna Paquin
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009From Time Out New York:
Vampires do love the good girls—like in Dracula or Twilight—so it’s no wonder that 26-year-old Anna Paquin is up to her fingernails in fake blood. Still remembered for scoring an Academy Award at age 11 for The Piano, the New Zealand import has since managed to lie low, avoiding that telltale trail of scandal and paparazzi. These days, as telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse on HBO’s True Blood, Paquin runs from vampires (occasionally) and macks on them (about every five minutes).
So you slept through our original interview time. Out late last night, huh?
We shot nights for two consecutive weeks. We’re on vampire hours. I don’t party. I’m not that cool.Never?
It’s not like I’ve never partied. As soon as you don’t need a fake ID, it kind of loses its appeal. You had a fake ID?
Course I did. I look like I’m 12! Especially when I was in college. A couple of occasions I had a bouncer look at it and go, no, you’re not so-and-so. If I tried to say yes, I am, they’d go, “No, you’re not, you’re Anna Paquin!†Like, they’ll know because my movie is playing across the street. They’d be like, this is the worst fake ID I’ve ever seen, go away.
