She got an early start with her career at the age of nine when she accompanied her sister to an audition for Jane Campion’s romantic drama movie The Piano in 1993. She got the role despite she had little to no acting experience and beat 5000 candidates who were vying for the role themselves. In fact, she played the part of Flora McGrath so convincingly that she received an Academy Award for the Best Supporting actress for the movie. At the age of 11, this made her the second youngest Academy Award winner in Oscar history.
She acted in various other movies and was successful as a child actress with movies like Fly Away Home (1996), The member of a Wedding (1997) and A Walk on the Moon (1999). She also received a nomination for a Screen Guild Actors Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast for Cameron Crowe’s comedy-drama Almost Famous which released in 2000.

She’s relocated several times due to either work or studies. At the age of four she moved to New Zealand with her family. When she reached the ripe old age of sixteen, she moved to LA with her mother after her parents divorced and completed the last two years of her schooling there. Her one year stint in Columbia University took her to New York after which she took a long leave of absence to pursue her acting and shuffled between New York and London for three years between 2001 and 2004 for her stage acting.
Born on the 24th of July 1982 in Manitoba, Canada, she was brought up in Wellington, New Zealand. She states in the promotional campaign video that she is bisexual and she gives a damn. When asked about her participation in the video, Paquin responded by saying, “It wasn’t like it was a big secret, it was just a cause I cared about and privately supported, but not one that I had ever had an opportunity to speak out about in a way that would be useful. Obviously I know that one person’s voice doesn’t necessarily do that much, but I just wanted to do my bit.”
She supports a lot of charities and foundations like Make-A-Wish Foundation, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and The Art of Elysium.
